Home Secretary Priti Patel has been accused of creating a hostile environment for immigration lawyers
A group of top British lawyers have accused the Home Secretary, Priti Patel, of inspiring a knife attack on an immigration solicitor last month.
The lawyers claim the knifeman was motivated by the anti-immigration rhetoric of Patel, who is well-known for her hardline approach on migration, asylum seekers and national security issues.
The attack reportedly took place on September 07 when an assailant carrying a large knife entered a law firm before launching a "violent racist attack" that left the immigration lawyer wounded.
The extent of the lawyers injuries is unknown. The name of the law firm has not been disclosed to the public for security reasons.
Following his arrest, a "confederate flag" and "far-right literature" were reportedly discovered in the assailants bag.
Immediately afterwards the anonymous law firm claimed in witness statements that "responsibility and accountability for this attack, in the eyes of this firm, lies squarely at the feet of Priti Patel".
And only yesterday (October 10) the body representing the legal profession reminded the government that "inflammatory rhetoric" has "consequences".
The Law Society of England and Wales claims it had heard from other law firms which had received increased "levels of abuse, threats and hostility" following the Home Secretarys incendiary rhetoric on immigration and asylum seekers.
Just four days before the knife attack (September 03), Patel sent shockwaves across the legal profession and beyond by blaming what she called "activist lawyers" for frustrating the governments plans to deport migrants and asylum seekers.
